Facts About Stress and Your Health

  • Stress is a major contributor to disease.

  • Stress can outweigh all your efforts to heal with good nutrition. You can have the perfect diet and still not get well if you don’t deal with stress.

  • Stress comes from negative thoughts and emotions (fear, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment, jealousy, envy, guilt, regret, worry, shame insecurity, and anxiety).

  • Stress is accumulative over your entire life time. Every hurtful event, person, or word spoken that hurt you accumulates and fills up your stress bucket if it’s not dealt with properly.

  • Stress burns out the adrenal glands, leading to exhaustion, weak immune system, poor digestion, hormonal imbalances, insomnia, auto-immune disease, and many other potential health problems.

According to the American Institute of Stress, it is estimated 75%-90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress related problems.

1. Simplify Your Life

You are also in charge of your schedule. The more you have on your schedule, the more stressed out you’re bound to be.
Make a schedule, and keep your schedule as simple and structured as possible.
Learn to say no to the “extra” things you know will increase your stress level. Setting healthy boundaries, knowing when to say yes, and when to say no, will provide much calm in your life.

.

2. Breathe

Breathing tells the body all is well. One of the first things we do when we are under stress is we stop breathing properly, which decreases oxygen to the body and brain, and increases stress.
When you do deep breathing exercises, your heart immediately slows down, which in turn calms you down. I like to use essential oils to help me inhale more deeply and for their relaxing affects.

.

3. Get Better Sleep

You de-stress and heal while you sleep. Adequate restful sleep can also keep you healthy.  If you have trouble with anxiety or sleeping, CBD OIl can be an excellent tool to help you relax, get to sleep, and stay asleep.

.

4. Go For Walks

When you are under stress you have to “get out of your own head” of racing or obsessive thoughts trying to figure everything out, or fix all our problems in one day.A great way to get outside of your own head of thinking is to go outside and enjoy God’s beautiful creation and space outside of your own mind. In the summer I have my prayer time on my front porch. It’s so relaxing!

.

5. Practice Thankfulness

Thankfulness = happiness, peace, and joy. I literally walk around my house thanking God for anything I can think of at the time.

.

6. Turn Off The News

News is all negative. Catching up on what’s going on in the world once or even twice a day is reasonable. But there is no need to be constantly informed of every bad thing happening in the world every minute of the day. It will stress you out, steal your peace, and crush your joy.

.

7. Laugh!

Laughter truly is the best medicine. Find funny shows, videos, and just be silly and enjoy the simple things in life.

.

8. Avoid Negative People

Stay away from negative people as much as possible. They will bring you down and stress you out. If you have family you can’t avoid, it might be time to let them know you don’t want to talk about all the terrible negative things. It’s time to talk about something else. If you work with difficult, negative people, pray about whether or not it’s time to find a new job. A stressful job can make you sick. Learn more about stress in the workplace.

.

9. Practice Forgiveness

Holding on to past and present anger, bitterness, hurt, resentfulness, shame, guilt, jealousy, and worry, will keep your stress levels up and crush any chance you have at peace and joy. You will know if you have not forgiven someone if you feel anger, resentment, bitterness, or any other negative emotion towards them when you see them, talk to them, or thing about them.
